  • October 3, 2007: The third plenary project meeting was held at OISE/UT. The meeting discussed the project budget, shared experiences from field trips in May 2007, and planned for field work in May of 2008. The meeting also discussed the presentation of case studies and publications, the preparation for the proposal for the 52nd CIES Annual Conference 2008 in New York, and assignments for four graduate students, etc.

  • September 17, 2007: Project meeting.

  • September 12, 2007: The project website is live.

  • September 3-7, 2007: The project team presented their initial findings from first six case universities at the 13rd World Congress of Comparative Education Societies at Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • August 31, 2007: Dr. Jun Li and Prof. Jing Lin submitted their co-authored book chapter as the first accepted publication of the project, entitled "China's Higher Education Expansion: A Policy Analysis from a Rational Framework," to the editors-in-chief, D. P. Baker & A. W. Wiseman, for The Worldwide Transformation of Higher Education (Oxford: Elsevier Science Ltd.).

           Ruth was awarded the title "Nan Qiang" Chair Professor, the top academic honour, by the President of Xiamen University. "Nan Qiang", literally meaning "Excellence in the South", has long been used to name this university, which hosts China's only national key institute in higher education studies.
  • May and June 2007: The second field trip to China, visiting six case universities (USTC, NJU, XMU, ECNU, XAIU and HHSTU). In addition, Dr. Jun Li finished the student survey in 12 case universities, with help of Prof. Ruth Hayhoe and Prof. Qiang Zha (News: OISE/UT, XMU, XAIU, and BSU).

  • April 5, 2007: Project meeting.

  • March 30, 2007: The Ethical Review Office of the University of Toronto approved the project's annual renewal of research protocol. At the same time, Prof. Jing Lin and Prof. Qiang Zha obtained their approral of ethical review for the project from the University of Maryland and York University, respectively.

  • February 25-March 1, 2007: The project team attended the 51st CIES Annual Conference in Baltimore, presenting the design and futural plan for the project, as well as the initial findings from pilot student survey.

  • February 25, 2007: The second plenary project meeting was held in Baltimore during the 51st CIES Annual Conference.

  • February 16, 2007: Project meeting.

  • January 19, 2007: Project meeting.
