December
1, 2006: Dr. Cristina Pinna and Dr. Jun Li began to
work as postdoctoral fellows for the project (OISE/UT
News). In addition, Dr. Guangli Zhou, from Huazhong University
of Science and Technology, and Dr. Mingdong Huang, from Wuhan
University, were giving some advice to the project.

December
2006: Prof. Jing Lin and Prof. Qiang Zha started their
first field trip to Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen, collecting
interviewing data for phase one of the project (XMU
News 1 and XMU
News 2 ).

September
22, 2006: The first plenary project meeting held at
OISE/UT.

September
2006: Three graduate assistants began to work for the
project at OISE/UT. The filing system of literature reviews
were created.

May 13,
2006: The
Ethical Review Office of the University of Toronto approved
the project for the first time. The approval is valid for one
year starting from May 13, 2006, and the project must be renewed
annually till its completion, as the ERO required.

April 1,
2006: Social
Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada granted
the project: "China's Move to Mass Higher Education: Implications
for Civil Society and Global Dialogue." (OISE/UT
